The Ponnmundam Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for carrying out the administrative functions of the Panchayati Raj system. In the context of a Gram Panchayat, it serves as the principal governing body that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and manages the day-to-day administration of the village.The main components of the Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and oversees the overall functioning and administration of the Panchayat.Vice President: Assumes the President’s responsibilities in the President’s absence and assists in the administration of Panchayat affairs.

History of Ponmundam Grama Panchayat

Ponnmundam is a region enriched with socio-cultural historical memories. The campaigns of Tipu Sultan and various national movements had a significant influence on the history of this land. During British rule, when it was part of the Malabar District, the people of this area endured the oppression of both imperialism and the feudal landlord system. They actively participated in the Indian freedom struggle and the Khilafat Movement. Sayyid Kunjikkoya Thangal, who led the first public meeting associated with the boycott of foreign cloth, also took part in the Salt Satyagraha.
